Fantastic Beasts and where to find them 2!

The official release day of  "Fantastic beasts and where to find them" is already out!

Sadly, for all the HP fans, it will be on the year 2018 so we have to wait 2 years! But for now we can enjoy the first film when it is released this year (we will obviously write a post about it) or read HP and The Cursed Child (see our review below).

Harry Potter and The Cursed Child review!

Hello everyone!

Well.. Here we go! We are going to write, like many others before us,  a HP and TCC review! You can read without fear there are not spoilers... Yet. 

We have decided the book of this month is going to be Harry Potter and The Cursed Child (we bet you hadn't guessed that, did you?😂).  How could we not dedicate this month to the eight HP book? Even if it is a theatre scrip and was written by more people than J.K Rowling herself we, as true Potterheads (Harry Potter fans) , had to read it! And a week after its release here we are, having not only acquired it but also having read it (that is a huge thing because we had to skip a lot of other titles in our "To read" list so we could read it and write this post on time, feel honoured dear readers😜).

We are going to start this post like we usually do: the title, the photo, a short summary, a link to our recommendation page where you can find more information...:

Harry Potter and The Cursed Child

Summary: It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children. 

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

But as it is a great occasion (we all thought there wasn't going to be another HP book) we are going to give you a review with our thoughts about the book too. We will warn you before the spoilers start so you don't need to worry.

The first word that comes to our mind after having read the book is...disappointment, because... Really J.K Rowling, really?  couldn't you do any better?

We, as her fans, are sure she could! 

To be fair it is a theatre play so it wasn't written to be read like a novel. We are sure the play has to be great and it must definitely be worth it but... As far as the plot goes we were quite disappointed.

It is not bad for a play! It's just not good enough. If it was a fan fiction it would be a great one but it is not a fanfic, it is the eight official HP story! So we are not satisfied with it at all. It is true that we discover some canon (official facts told by the author) facts about Harry's life after the books but most of them we already knew of as J.K Rowling had told a lot of them in Pottermore over the years, (we will write a post about those facts in the near future).

--------HUGE SPOILERS START HERE (you can continue to read without spoilers later on-----

We should also point out that we see lots of clichés during this story... Time travelling, really? There are lots, and when we say lots we mean an awful lot, of fanfics about it (some of them really well thought and well written.)

When it first appeared in HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban  time travelling was seen as a mayor plothole so lots of people asked J.K Rowling about it and her answer was:

"I went far too light-heartedly into the subject of time travel in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. While I do not regret it (Prisoner of Azkaban is one of my favourite books in the series), it opened up a vast number of problems for me, because after all, if wizards could go back and undo problems, where were my future plots? I solved the problem to my own satisfaction in stages. Firstly, I had Dumbledore and Hermione emphasise how dangerous it would be to be seen in the past, to remind the reader that there might be unforeseen and dangerous consequences as well as solutions in time travel. Secondly, I had Hermione give back the only Time-Turner ever to enter Hogwarts. Thirdly, I smashed all remaining Time-Turners during the battle in the Department of Mysteries, removing the possibility of reliving even short periods in the future." (source Pottermore)

She also said, with her character Professor Saul Croaker, that "The longest period that may be relived without the possibility of serious harm to the traveller or to time itself is around five hours. We have been able to encase single Hour-Reversal Charms, which are unstable and benefit from containment, in small, enchanted hour-glasses that may be worn around a witch or wizard’s neck and revolved according to the number of hours the user wishes to relive. All attempts to travel back further than a few hours have resulted in catastrophic harm to the witch or wizard involved. It was not realised for many years why time travellers over great distances never 
survived their journeys. All such experiments have been abandoned since 1899, when Eloise Mintumble became trapped, for a period of five days, in the year 1402. Now we understand that her body had aged five centuries in its return to the present and, irreparably damaged, she died in St Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries shortly after we managed to retrieve her. What is more, her five days in the distant past caused great disturbance to the life paths of all those she met, changing the course of their lives so dramatically that no fewer than twenty-five of their descendants vanished in the present, having been “un-born”." (Source Pottermore)

Then how did the time turner even exist? If there are so many drawbacks and it is so difficult to travel back in time how is it that no one is surprised that they can go back that far? And they can make two time turner like that? It doesn't make much sense. Also Albus is only injured, not killed for making such a big time journey, this doesn't make any sense!

The second, and biggest cliché is Delphi's real parentage. We don't know if it is a reference to Star Wars or if it is just plain copying but, there is even a scene with the revelation that looks surprisingly similar to the I am your father scene of Star Wars just read for yourselves:

“VOLDEMORT (interrupting): I see what you are, and I see what you could be. 
Daughter.

She looks at him, desperately moved.

DELPHI: Father?” 

Yes, we know that he isn't really Voldemort and that this isn't actually a real encounter but.. Really the evil character has a child he doesn't know about or the child doesn't know his true parentage cliché?

We are not satisfied either about the way that Albus and Harry relationship is portrayed, at all! We can understand that Harry might not be winning the best father of the year award, that he might get frustrated, and that Albus might feel like an outcast but really? If you are a teenager and you are mad at your dad you don't wait three years until you finally blow up (we are teenagers ourselves we would know). And you don't do it in a so convenient way that he loses it and tells you he wished you weren't his son and this conversation acts like a catalyst to the whole plot! Come on! 

And talking about that discussion, why doesn't Harry feel a bit hurt about Albus, "I wish I wasn't your son" declarations? And why doesn't Albus apologise later on about his words? Because it wasn't convenient to the plot? Really?

We were also quite disappointed in the fact that the Magical World is still extremely prejudiced and that Rose Weasley (and the other Weasleys and Potters) doesn't do
anything to help one member of her own family whom she was friends with while he is being bullied (Al), only for being in a different house! This doesn't add up with the Weasley family spirit  (although it is true that when Percy left the family they also acted like he didn't exist) or the fact that Hermione, the girl that fought for the house Elves rights and was bullied herself, is her mother. She should have known better. We can understand that Rose might be petty and mean, but we think it's just that the authors had to find a way to let us see that Albus was truly alone. That a character such as Rose had to be portrayed this way for it saddens us.

We still don't understand why does Harry scar hurt again or why does he get those dreams, as terrifying that the idea of Voldemort ( we guess the mother is Bellatrix but we don't really know for sure) having a child is it shouldn't suddenly hurt Harry or make him able to speak parseltongue again, which is really convenient for the "Father-daughter" scene. And if the reason is really the existence of Delphi... Why didn't it hurt before? Is it like an alarm? It hurts when something bad is going to happen? Because that would be ridiculous but it looks like it might be the case.

We were also left with a really big question... Where is Teddy Lupin?? Because he sure isn't around nor is he mentioned! We wanted to see Teddy!

Another quite big misunderstanding during the story was the relationship between Albus and Scorpius, are they friends or not? We leave you these images we found in tumblr by unformerjohnlocker  so you can judge.

On the other hand, we are finishing our rant now, don't worry, not everything is negative, we were left with some very good quotes and were able to see/read Severus Snape and Cedrid Digory again!

Maybe we are being too harsh and if J.K Rowling were to narrate the play in her writing style we would fall in love with it, even if the plot looks like something a fan fiction writer would write, but it is our personal opinion.

This month, the character is ... SIRIUS BLACK!

We did something a bit different this time, we posted our survey on Google Plus and received 337 votes !!!! Thanks to everyone who voted!!!!!

The winner was clearly Sirius Black so we are going to dedicate this whole post to him and upload some content to our new Fangirling page about him (we will let you know shorty on a post)

WARNING: Don't read this post if you haven't read all the books. SPOILERS! (Duh)

Name: Sirius Black

Nickname: Padfoot or Snuffles

Age: He dies at 36 so he is in his middle thirties during the books.

Family: He is a pureblood from the Black family, a family with a reputation as Dark that hates him. He is considered a blood traitor by his parents because he didn't want to be a deatheater and didn't  share their ideas about muggleborns. He ran away after his Fifth year at Hogwarts and went to the Potters' who took care of him. He was then casted out of the family tree. His brother Regulus was a death eater who changed his ways and died trying to destroy a Horrocrux although it is not clear that Sirius knew in th books that his brother had tried to redeem himself as he only knows he died.

Story: Sirius was one of the Marauders, he was James Potter's best friend, became an Animagus to help Remus Lupin in his werewolf transformation (his form was a dog), he became an auror and was named godfather of James Potter's son (Harry). He was planning to be the Potters' secret keeper to protect them from Voldemort. However he proposed a switch to Peter Pettigrew, one of his other friends, as he thought he was the obvious choice. Peter betrayed them and the Potters died and disappeared after framing him. Sirius was sentenced to Azkaban, a prison, and stayed there for 12 years. After that time had passed he escaped and found Harry and the traitor (Peter), however Peter escaped and Sirius' name wasn't cleared.  He stayed in his family home, Grimauld Place, that served as the Order of the Phoenix headquarters until his death in the Battle of the Ministry in Harry's fifth year. He was killed while fighting Bellatrix to help his godson Harry. He had no wife nor children so his fortune and house went to his godson Harry.

Physical appearance: Sirius was a well-built man, with pale skin, long black hair and rare gray eyes. But thanks to his stay in Azkaban his good looks disappear and his first description on the books is like this: "he had a gaunt, sunken face, waxy skin, yellow teeth, and long, matted hair; Harry thought he looked as a corpse might"

In the films: He was played by three different actors: James Walters acted as a 15 year old Sirius Black in the film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (inside Severus Snape´s pensieve); Rohan Gotobed played 11 year old Sirius Black in the film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 2) also on a Pensieve memory; and finally Gary Oldman who played the adult Sirius in the rest of the films where this character appears.

In his animagus form he was played by a dog named Berry.

Fanfiction: You can find lots of fanfics abour Sirius, lots of thems are AU (that means that they   don´t follow the books). Some are aboutip romantic relationships Sirius might have had with other characters like Hermione (yuck!), Remus (we doubt it)  Snape (what?!!!!!) or and OC (a character who doeesn´t appear on the books); some other fanfics talk about Sirius life before the Potter´s death or how his life was in Azkaban; and others are about Sirius´ father-son relationship with Harry, we can find some really well written fanfics based on the idea of Sirius rescuing Harry from the Dursleys. We have decided that we are going to choose one fanfic of each type:

- This community is only dedicated to Sirius and OCs, we don´t really like this kind of fanfics.

A fangirl is (as tumblr wisely says) a girl, aged between 11 and 18 (there are multiple exceptions to this rule but we are going to stick with this for now), who is obssesed with a fictional character and with the actor who plays him or her or a fandom (a book or TV series) . We also add that they are also obsesed with fanarts (art made by fans), fanfics (stories written by fans) and fanvids (videos made by fans).

The Hidden Oracle, New Percy Jackson Books!!!!

The sequel of Heroes of Olimpus was published two days ago (May 3, 2016) and it is part of a collection called: The Trials of Apollo" it takes place after the events in Blood of Olympus

  It is named "The hidden Oracle"and it seems it is going to be the first book of another collection. We have already read the book and we can assure (minor SPOILER) you that  Nico Di Angelo, Leo Valdez, Calipso and other characters appear so we know more abouth what happened to them after the last book

We have been reading Percy Jackson for a long time and it seems the collection never ends (we are very happy about that, mind you, because PJO is one of the best collections in the world).
Annd it looks like this journey continues, the second book has already been anounced!


It will be called "The dark prophecy" and the planned release date is May the 2nd 2017 (a whole year. noooooooo). We don´t know yet how the cover will look like but there was a little summary in Rick Riordan´s webpage.

For some unknown reason our blog keeps having problems with some images and videos.
That is why we have deleted the 'download' and 'video' pages. They will be replaced by a new page (that we have in our Spanish blog) called "Fangirling" in the near future.
If you want to see how it will look you can check our Spanish blog here.

The actual content in 'downloads' and in 'videos' will be uploaded again but lots of new content will be posted as well. We will explain how the page works in some days time.

Fantastic beasts and where to find them

Hello everybody!

The release date of  the new Harry Potter inspired film ("Fantastic beasts and where to find them") is getting closer!!!!!

It will be on November 16 but we have news and trailers to share with you!

As you might now the film is based on J.K Rowling's book with the same name. The film is only the first part of a trilogy so Harry Potter fans are going to wait for them but also enjoy  them for at least another three years.

Harry Potter fan-made film!!!!

Hi everyone!!!!

Three days ago a new fan-made film was published by Broad Strokes, the producers of another fan-made film called "The greater good" that tells the story between Dumbledore and Grindlewald  (see link here).
Because of its immediate success they decided to do another film this one about the Marauders. It is called "Severus Snape and the Marauders" , it is really good and we really recommend it. We post the trailer and the film.

We are alive!!!!!!

We are really sorry for going all these months without updating (more than a year...sorry 😓😥 ). But we are back on track!!!! We will still update this blog, don't worry.

 We have posted in our Spanish version of the blog quite frequently so if you know any Spanish you might want to have a look ( Here).
We basically didn't  have time to translate but now we will focus once again in translating the content and in finding new information about English books or the release date of different films in England, the USA and other English speaking countries.

If Tobias hadn't chosen Dauntless and had stayed in Abnegation with Marcus...

"In a week I will take the test. The test is supposed to tells us what to do... I am nervous. But I don't say anything to my mother while we prepare dinner. Today Marcus is eating dinner with us, Marcus is one of Abnegation's Leaders. His wife died but they say he has a son. His son chose Abnegation: he coulnd't leave his fahter alone. He did the right thing. Will I be able to do the same if Claeb changes factions?
I hear footsteps; Marcus and his son are here. His name is Tobias. I look into his eyes and I ask myself if staying home is the right thing or if it would be the worst mistake of my life."

Character of the month

Hello everyone!!!!

This month, the character is ...TOBIAS EATON (Four)!

Name: Tobias Eaton.

Nickname: Four.

Age: He's 18 years old in all the books.

Family: His father Marcus Eaton is one of the Abnegation leaders. Tobias has a really bad relationship with him because he abused him when he was a child. His father is one of his four fears.
Everybody thinks Evelyn Johnson (his mother) died while she was giving birth to her second child that died a bit later. But the truth is that she was expelled from Abnegation by Marcus (she was cheating on him with another man) and is forced to live with the  factionless. She becomes their leader and she sees her son again in the second book. Although their relatioship is still bad because Tobias can't forgive her for leaving him alone with his father; at the end of the third book they fix their relationship.

Story: Tobias choose Dauntless (where the brave ones go) to escape his father. His training goes so well that  he ends with the first position in the tests. He changes his name for FOUR, because he only has four fears (something really rare even in Dauntlees) so nobody know who he is (there are rumors about him and his father). They try to give him a leader job in Dauntless but he doesn't take it so he doesn't have to see his father in meetings with other leaders. Instead he works with computers and training the ones form outside dauntless. There he meets Tris and fells in love with her,at the end he kiss her and tells her he loves her. She loves him back. But Erudite atacks Abnegation using a chip that destroys other's people wills (in this case the ones form dauntless) and the dauntless soldiers are forced to kill the people form Abnegation. But Tris and Four are divergent and are not affect by the serum. In the end they destroy the simulation (Tris and Four) and run away together. In the second book they are runnig away from Erudite and they visit differet factions and meet Tobias' mother. The third book tells the story outside the fence when Tris and Four discover the truth about their world.

Physical appearence: Tobias's hair is brown. He wears it short or shaped in abnegation style. He has a tatto with the five factions in his back and the Duantless flames in his ribs. He's tall and weel-built.

Love life: He falls in love with Tris and tries to protect her since the begginingfrom the rest of the faction. In the second part of the training he discovers that Tris is Divergent and tries to help her hide it. Finally Tobias shows her his fear landscape, and when they finished they kiss for the first time.

Ship name: Fourtris o Ten (Four +Seven (fears) "TEN")

Fears: His fears are:

-Falling.

-Claustrophobia.

-His power to murder.

-His father- Marcus

In the second book his third fear (murder) changes for something happening to Tris.

Strong points: He's brave, strong, sensible and kind. He does whatever it takes to protect Tris.

Name: Katniss Everdeen
Age:16 (The Hunger Games), 17 (Catching fire and Mockingbird) y 35+ (Epilogue)
Family: Her father died when she was eleven years old, her little sister Prim is the most important thing for her (she dies in the third book). Her mother doesn't worries about her or her sister. In the epilogue she's married to Peeta Mellark and she has two kids, a girl and a boy.

Story: Katniss was born in the 12th District. Her father died when she was eleven in an underground explosion in the mines where he worked. Since then she lived with her sister (Prim) and her mother, but she didn't get on with her mother because she blame her for having a depression after Katniss' father's death and letting Katniss and Prim to cope on their own. She had to go hunting in the woods so the could eat. When she was 16 years old Katniss volunteered herself to take the place of her sister in the Hunger Games when Prim was called during the reaping day. The other tribute from her district was Peeta Mellark, the boy who saved her family during her mother's depression by giving her a loaf of bread. Before her trip to the Capitol, she went to the Justice Building to say goodbye to her loved ones. When she said goodbye to her mother and Prim, Prim made her promise that she would tryto win, Katniss promised it and told her mother she has to take care of her sister. Along with Peeta she was declared winner of the 74th Hunger Games, she went to the Victory tour and then took part in the 75th Hunger Games because the Capitol saw her as a threat. After destroying the Hunger Games Katniss became the matching symbol of the rebellion against the Capitol
Appearence: She has dark black hair, usally in a braid. Gray eyes and olive skin.
Education: Her father taught her to hunt and  archery, with a bit of herbology. Gale taught her to make traps. After being choosen as tribute she is trained by the Capitol. We know that she went to school in the 12th District but she didn't finish her studies because of the war.
Love life: When she was hunting in the forest she met Gale Hawthorne after hitting one of his traps, which had caught a rabbit. After an initial chill, the two became hunting companions and  share their knowledge with each other; Gale taught Katniss how to make traps and she shared her knowledge of herbology and archery with him. Katniss eventually gave Gale a bow. The trust between Gale and Katniss grew and they became very close friends, knowing both inside and out. Gale had feelings for Katniss and Katniss for him, they eventually kissed. After The Hunger Games they grew appart as Katniss had been forced to pretend to be madly in love with Peeta to survive. After an explosion caused by one of  Gale's trap in wich Prim dies, she didin't speak to Gale again.
Peeta Mellark is the baker's son and he gave Katniss a loaf of bread when her's mother was in the midst of her depression because even then he felt something for her. He was choosen in the 74th Hunger Games with Katniss and there he reveals his love for her, partly as advertising, although he fails to realize that Katniss is not really in love with him. But, after so many things together the girl falls in love with Peeta and when the Capitol captures him she almost goes insane. When they find him, he hates her because of the rastrevíspula poisson, she still loves him and helps him to heal himself. When she breaks up with Gale she marries etta and has two kids.

Fears:  Her greatest fear is that anything happens to her sister Prim.
Strong points: She is brave, clever and will do anything for the people she loves. She is a good hunter also.
